Chair Sets came into play in the late 1800's as a way of protecting furniture from dirt and wear. These sets were typically made of fabric and at times adorned with embroidery. In the early 1930's, patterns began to appear for crocheted chair sets; many for the more intricate filet crochet. These crochet patterns ranged from basic geometric motifs, to more elaborate flower displays. Many of the filet crocheted chair sets also depicted animal scenes, such as puppies, birds or horses. The ever popular crochet pineapple motif also played a factor in many designs. The crocheted chair set remained quite a popular item into the late 1950s.
Although I do not see much interest for the Crocheted Chair sets, I feel compelled to include them in the online pattern collection. Many of these designs are quite remarkable and would easily convert to lovely wall art or doilies.
