Square Crochet Handbag Pattern in Shell Stitch

Pieces of Eight : This pattern contains directions to crochet the bag shown. This is certainly an usual and interesting bag - brought to us by The Spool Cotton Company all the way back in 1939. The bag is made in 8 separate sections that are joined together. The bags folds together, is lined with an internal zip closure, folds up around itself with shell stitch panels, buttons at the top and has a short carrying strap. The actual size is not stated.

Materials:

  • J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 3 balls of any color.

  • MILWARD'S steel crochet hook No.9.
    3/8 yd. lining material.

  • 3/8 yd. buckram.

  • An 8-inch slide fastener.

GAUGE: S c-section: 11 sts make 1 inch; 12 rows make 1 inch. Shell-section: 4 shells make 1 1/2 inches; 6 rows make 1 inch.
