Argyle Knitted Shell Pattern, Vintage 1960s

Argyle Shell: This pattern contains instructions for knitting the shell pictured. Whether you call this design a shell, or a sleeveless pullover, the design is great. Knitted to included full page chart, it is worked in a primary and three colors of fingering yarn. There is narrow ribbing at the rounded neck and sleeve openings and wider ribbing at the hip hemline. The pattern is size 10 for misses, with changes 12, 14, 16 and 18 in parentheses.

Materials: COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" SUPER FINGERING, 3 Ply (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) :

  • No. 722 Lt. Pink 3 (4, 5, 5, 6) skeins
  • 2 ounces each of No. 403 Lt. Oxford and No. 12 Black 1 ounce of No. 909 Scarlet for all sizes.
  • Knitting needles, 1 pair No. 2 and No. 4.
  • 21 bobbins.

GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch.
